Reason #5: Mineral Makeup is More Versatile
Finding your perfect makeup can be a real challenge, especially if you have makeup allergies, sensitive skin that is prone to irritation or a number of health conditions that affect the skin like celiac, lupus, eczema, rosacea or psoriasis. For example, liquid makeup foundations should conceal imperfections in your skin, but you don’t want to walk around looking like the painted face lady. After all, the whole point of wearing makeup is to accentuate your natural beauty.
Many liquid foundations are too cakey and can actually make fine lines appear worse than they would without any makeup at all. Pressed powders give a good amount of light coverage, but it can be difficult to find a pressed powder that is not talc based. Yuck!
The answer may lie in mineral makeup. If you've never tried mineral cosmetics, you're in for a treat.
The Wonderful World of Mineral Color
Mineral makeup can be worn either wet or dry. To wear dry, buff in loose mineral powder as foundation, blush, eyeshadow or eye liner using a kabuki brush or pouf. To wear wet, simply mix with water or
Apply mineral color with a light hand for sheer coverage, or blend with a lotion to make your own BB cream to moisturize those dry patches while giving you the coverage you want. Mineral foundation is very forgiving.
Natural Sun Screen?
Sunscreen causing cancer gets the hottest health topic award this summer. It’s a confounding problem that doesn’t seem to have any solution (other than staying inside). If you use sunscreen, you’re slathering on oxybenzone, fragrances, dyes and other potentially harmful chemical ingredients. If you don’t use sunscreen, well, you run the risk of premature aging (best case) or (worst case) getting skin cancer.
One of the best things about mineral makeup is that it doubles as a light sun screen. Mineral foundation is formulated using pure ingredients such as titanium Dioxide and zinc oxide, which provide natural sun protection up to 30 SPF.
Unlike talc and cheap fillers, mica (titaniun and zinc) adheres to the skin’s natural oils better than most other ingredients, creating semi-waterproof UV protection (no more than 30 SPF), along with noticeably beautiful skin. The unique properties of the natural ingredient mica allow you to layer mineral makeup for as little, or as much coverage as you want.
